Occasionally I see people make comments on Facebook about not knowing how to do certain tasks. As I see those, I will write up directions (providing, of course, that I know how to do it)!

Uploading Pictures to Facebook

Before you can upload pictures on Facebook, you have to know where they are located on your computer (see tip on Files and Folders).  Most of the time, by default, pictures are stored in a Picture folder on your hard drive.  Some cameras will unload the pictures in a folder within the pictures folder and might even create further sub-folders using the date as the naming format.    The important thing is to know where the pictures that you want to upload are located.

The instructions that follow will be using the  FireFox browser.

First, on your Facebook page, select photo, then Upload a photo

Then click Browse to go to the folder where your pictures are stored on your computer.

Selecting the photo

Then select the photo.  Notice the path at the top of the page (see photo below) It directs the computer to the folder, sub-folder, and sub-sub-folder that the pictures are located in.  It is like a map.  Notice the folder names on the left hand side of the screen and the files (pictures) in the right hand area?  Just select the picture you want to upload.  You can also hold down your CTRL key and select multiple photos and upload all at the same time.

Copy a Status on Facebook

Oftentimes, on Facebook,  you will see someone post a status that says “copy this to your status if you agree”.  Almost as often, you will see someone comment below, “I don’t know how”.  Sometimes, when you work with a computer every day, it is hard to remember that what seems second nature to us might totally throw someone else for a loop!   Which is totally ok!  No one knows how to do everything (although, I have met a few that think they do! LOL!)

So, here are some instructions for those of you that could use a little help with this:  Use your mouse to highlight the text you want to copy.  Right click on the highlighted text to display context menu.  Left click on COPY.  Go to your own status box and click inside of it.  Right click to display the context menu.  Left click on paste.  You have just copied and pasted a status.  Good Job!
